An easy day on the water - Day 47 - Columbus, MS to Pickensville, AL

The plan today was simple.  Return the rental car, visit the grocery store, get some cash, traverse one lock and cruise a short 28 miles to Pirates Cove Marina.  We executed without a hitch.

We did all our chores while the morning fog burned off.

Krogers had everything we needed and we stopped at Enterprise on the way to the marina.  They charged us $111 for 4 full days and then drove us to the boat.  We called the John C. Stennis lock from the marina and they said come on down.  So at 10:50 AM we departed Columbus and ten minutes later entered the lock, which was open and waiting.

The cruise to Pirates Cove was made in bright sunshine, light winds and 65 degrees.  The tree lined scenery continued interspersed with a few more houses along the bank, some of which were very nice.

House with house boat.  First time we saw this.
We arrived at 2:30.  Pirate Cove was, to say the least, unique.
We posed with the pirate (a relic from Long John Silvers)

That's it.  The entire marina
We sat on the porch and chatted with fellow loopers while Kodi played with her two new friends, Pirate, the marina dog and Coco, the looper's dog.  Kodi's favorite activity is getting chased.  She must have ran for a half hour and they never caught her.  She was clearly in dog heaven.

The end of a perfect day

  1. The refugee from Long John Silvers has one eye patch. Les and Diana each have two eye patches. Hmmm . . . . Should we send an alert to the folks along the Tombigbee/Black Warrior to watch for super pirates?
